My name is Lindie, and I am asking for help for my son, Shawn Peterson, from West Haven, Utah. Shawn is a husband and father of four, and his newborn had just come home from the NICU when our world was turned upside down. While doing his pre-check at work at Saia trucking on Wednesday night, another driver was hooking up to a triple trailer load and backed up, crushing Shawn between two trailers. He was rushed by ambulance to IHC Critical Care and Trauma Center, where he went into cardiac arrest in transit. Since then, he has endured internal bleeding, multiple surgeries to stop the bleeding and remove portions of vital organs, spinal cord injuries with rods and screws placed in his vertebrae, and we are being told he will most likely never have use of his legs, a broken arm, a concussion, and he remains in a medically induced coma with a breathing machine helping him breathe. We are remaining optimistic as it’s only been a few days, but it has tortured us as a family
As his mother, I feel defeated and helpless, and our family is sitting by his bedside trying to navigate this horrific tragedy one moment at a time. We are being told Shawn will need extensive surgeries throughout his recovery, snd as he goes through his life and his rehabilitation could take years. The funds raised will help with mounting medical bills, household bills while he is unable to work, and the many needs we know are coming, including a handicap accessible vehicle and making his home wheelchair accessible. There are still so many unknowns ahead, and permanent disability will not help until he has been out of work for 90 days. Please help if you can by donating or sharing Shawn’s story. Every act of support will help carry Shawn, his wife, and their children through the difficult road ahead.
