Help Shawn Overcome Financial Hurdles

My name is Shawn Baskerville, and I am currently a sophomore majoring in Bachelor of Arts at Uhart. I am reaching out with a request for financial assistance. I need $3,000 by the 31st to continue my education at the University of Hartford

The past few semesters have been incredibly challenging for me financially. Despite my best efforts, I have encountered holds when applying for the following academic years, and unfortunately, this year is the same. I have genuinely looked in many places for financial aid, including trying to apply for parent plus loans and other assistance options. However, due to my parents' own financial struggles, these options have not proven to be successful.

My father recently completed trade school and is now stuck paying off loans, while my mother, as a mother of six, is unable to provide substantial financial support for my college education. One top of this, the funding that I am able to receive from my parents is split because I have a twin sister who is also attending college. As a result, I find myself in a tricky situation where I am forced to rely on my own limited income. I currently work part-time during the weekends, but this does little to assist the financial strain I am experiencing.

Despite these challenges, I am determined to pursue my passion for music. I am a singer striving to establish myself in the industry, and I believe I have finally found my footing. My involvement in various campus activities, such as working at OSEI in the food pantry, participating in the frisbee team, and being part of an Acapella group, has not only improved my college experience but also strengthened my sense of belonging within the community.

Leaving school half way through my 4 years due to financial constraints would be devastating for me. As a resident of Hartford who carefully chose this university for my education, the thought of stopping my academic journey midway through is painful. I am committed to staying and making a positive impact to both the campus and the surrounding community.
