Help Shawn and his family during these rough times

Dear family, friends and caring souls out there,

Our family is reaching out for help, support and prayer, in a way we never thought we would need to.

Unfortunately, with the heaviest heart possibly, one of our loved ones, my Uncle Shawn, has been diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer. As you could imagine, receiving this crushing news has been nothing shy of a massive blow to our family; especially when it’s the news of cancer. We would all like to think we are “immune” to the nasty “C” word until it’s slapped in your face.

This exact situation is what happened to my Uncle Shawn. Life has thrown him a curve ball that himself nor any of his family are ready for. Nothing quite gets your attention like a cancer diagnosis! Almost instantaneously, your perspective and priorities change and it drags you against your own will to come face to face with your own mortality. For anyone who knows my Uncle Shawn, you know he won’t be dragged around or down! A son, a father to 5, a grandpa to 7, a brother to 1, an uncle to 3 and a friend to SO many, we all can say with confidence that he will fight his hardest and come out on top.

Since September 2024, my Uncle Shawn has been seen by his family doctor 4x with constant complaints of stomach, back and hip pain. His family doctor would then assess the situation, brush it off as nothing serious and send my uncle on his merry way. This month (January 2025), my uncle went into his family doctor’s office not willing to accept any excuses or allow himself to be brushed aside. It was at this time his family doctor sent him directly to the hospital where he was scheduled to have intensive screenings done. Thankfully, the team of doctors at the hospital were quick to react and have put together a fighting plan of surgery followed by intense radiation therapy.

For this, our family are beyond blessed and thankful!

We are asking all friends, family and local generous souls to please help relieve some of the financial burdens my uncles family will be faced with during this heart wrenching time. In today’s world, being brought down to a single income is scary all on its own!

Family bills don’t stop when a loved one falls ill but we can only hope that enough loving people can help Kara (Shawn’s wife) stay as strong as she can, while we do our part to help cover some of the expenses they will endure during my uncles surgery and treatments.
