Help Shawanna Vaughn Recover

Donation protected
Hello; Evan McMullen here. I've started this fundraiser because my dear friend and colleague Shawanna Vaughn, Director of the non-profit Silent Cry, Inc. recently fell down at a community trauma intervention we were holding in Detroit and hit her head, suffering a concussion and mini-stroke in the process.

Although Shawanna has insurance coverage through Medicare, unfortunately the incident occurred in Michigan and her New York Medicare insurance will only cover rehabilitative services in New York, but it is not physically safe for her to travel this soon after a stroke and so she needs money for therapy and accessibility equipment here in Michigan now.

After almost a week in the hospital, she is back home but in need of funds for childcare expenses, food, and medical costs of treatment and recovery, including physical/occupational and speech therapy, as well as assistance with household tasks and care for her ten year old daughter.

Shawanna's work with Silent Cry has been covered in the media, including Forbes:

"Shawanna Vaughn is the founder and the Director of Silent Cry Inc., a New York based non-profit organization that takes a holistic approach to aftercare from mass incarceration, gun violence and trauma. They understand that the quality of care is the single biggest factor for impacting and invoking changes and they support affected children and families during and after a challenging period."

"Never allowing anything or one to prevent her goals, Vaughn herself has dealt with numerous health issues such as; cancer survivor, congestive heart failure, being legally blind but continuously fights the Silent Cries of Trauma. Silent Cry, Inc., a Harlem-based nonprofit organization taking the holistic approach to life after mass incarceration and trauma."

Shawanna selflessly donates her time, attention, and money to assist the community, focusing on the formerly incarcerated, and those who have been affected by all kinds of trauma. She is an advocate for the inclusion of PTPD (Post-Traumatic Prison Disorder) as a distinct trauma etiology in future editions of the DSM.

Any donations will be used solely to cover Shawanna's medical and basic living expenses, and care for her ten year old daughter during this difficult time.
