My mom has been through so much in the past several months. She’s been battling chronic heart failure, and back in October, her heart was functioning at only 15%. We almost lost her, but thanks to her doctors, medications, and outpatient therapy, her heart function has improved to 40% as of last month. While this is wonderful news for her health, she’s now facing a different kind of struggle—one that threatens her stability and peace of mind.

My dad recently went missing on March 23rd. Thankfully, he was found safe, but he is now out of state and we have no idea when, or if, he’ll be able to return and help my mom. He left his job in November due to conflicting views and, despite searching and applying, he wasn’t able to find work before he disappeared. My mom depended on him financially, and now she’s three months behind on rent and struggling to keep up with utilities and food. She’s only 60, which means she doesn’t qualify for most elderly assistance programs, and the stress of this situation is taking a toll on her mental health. I’ve been doing everything I can to help while managing my own household, but I’m reaching a point where I can’t do this alone.
