My mom and stepdad, Sharon and Peter Kofoed, have an amazing dog named Mia who is fighting for her life after a severe tick-borne infection. Her kidney function is dangerously close to failure, and she’s being fed through a feeding tube three times a day and needs daily subcutaneous IV medications.

Last week, Mia became very ill and had to be rushed to emergency care. She’s undergone multiple procedures, dozens of tests, and around-the-clock treatment.

Mia is an adorable, happy 4-year-old Papillon-Corgi mix rescue who came into their lives after their 15-year-old dog, Sammie, crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Mia is the center of their universe. She brings so much love, comfort, and joy to everyone who meets her, and we all love her endlessly.

The vet bill has already reached over $10,000 and is continuing to grow. Sharon and Peter, along with their friends and vets, are doing everything they can to help Mia recover. Mia loves being home from the hospital. She is showing hopeful signs of recovery but it will take time and more medical care. The antibiotics need at least 28 days, and her kidneys even longer to recover.
