Help Sharon keep SanJuanIslander going

In December as I was flown via the fixed-wing air ambulance to Bellingham, I realized it might be wise to lower my stress level.

I'm the one-woman show that is For the past 21 years, I've  been providing online daily news about the San Juan Islands.  I do have some help, my ex-husband who started the business with me still generously provides photographs. I am fortunate to have several columnists who provide quality content.

But continuing on as editor, publisher, reporter, tech support, ad rep, and chief bottle washer  is not tenable.

Funding has become an issue for media, large and small. I know it's a terrible time to be asking for financial help. So many businesses and individuals are hurting. But I've used up my  other options.  As the advertising for all media declined  I took on a part-time job three years ago and also took social security early to provide enough funding to keep going.

A viable future for SanJuanIslander means becoming a non-profit and being able to expand beyond a single-person operation. According to media experts, non-profit status is the future for media  especially local news.  IRS regulations allow for it.

So I  am asking for funding since advertising revenue - which was already declining -  has fallen off due to the pandemic. I appreciated support I have received in the past and will be very grateful for any amount this fundraiser provides.

The funding will:

1. Keep the Islander going
2. Allow me  to hire some freelancers to provide feature stories and expand coverage
3. Pay for tech support
4. Pay for legal help to process becoming a non-profit.

Thank you in advance for your donation. I very much appreciate it.

(BTW: I got a clean bill of health from St. Joes after they ran some tests to confirm the incident wasn't something more serious. Island Air's crew was great as were the folks at PIMC.)
