My Story: For the past four years, I have been battling pulmonary fibrosis, a rare auto-immune disease. Despite numerous treatments and medications, my condition has worsened, making it difficult to perform daily activities and enjoy life as I once did. The constant shortness of breath, fatigue, and pain have taken a toll on my physical and emotional well-being. I am on oxygen 24/7. After assessment by multiple lung transplant teams at UAB and Duke, it has become clear that I require a double lung transplant to improve my condition. First, I have to get listed to receive the life-saving, generous gift of life, organ donation. Pre-transplant, I will need to relocate for six to nine months from Panama City, Florida to Durham, North Carolina, if the lung transplant team decides I need to relocate for further assessment for listing.
