Help Sharon Study Nursing at University

Sharon is a bright 17 year-old Kenyan young woman, whose dream is to become a healthcare professional. She has been accepted to university to study nursing. Unfortunately, she does not have the means to attend university. Her parents earn little, and the pandemic has put extra strain on their finances. I am fundraising to support her school and living expenses, so that she can achieve her dream.

I met Sharon in 2016, while I was doing research in Bungoma, Kenya. Her mom, Beatrice, worked at my office as inventory manager, and kindly prepared meals for myself and my colleagues to gain a little extra income (as an aside, her food is delicious). At the time, Sharon was only 13, and was already set on studying medicine. After completing high school with excellent grades, Sharon was accepted to the Kenya Medical Training College in Webuye to pursue a 3-year diploma in Community Health Nursing. 

Tuition and fees are $1,000, school supplies cost $1,000, and living costs amount to $1,300. For transparency, a very detailed budget can be found here  . To give you an idea, average per capita income in Kenya is $150/month. This is why, most of the time, only the wealthiest families can send their children to university. Because the first semester was conducted online, Sharon was able to start her studies from home. However, in January she will have to move to Webuye to attend classes in-person. This is why we need your help now. 

In the four years I've known her, Sharon has always impressed me by her dedication, perseverance and passion for her studies. I am confident that she has a very bright future ahead of her. Please help me support her, so that she can achieve her full potential and make her dream come true.
