Help Sharon, a Single Mum of Two, Through Breast Cancer

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Valerie and I am raising funds for my sister in law, Sharon, who has recently been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.

The past year has been incredibly tough for Sharon. A few years ago, she moved to Australia from Mauritius, leaving behind her entire family and support system. She later married my brother, but in 2025 they made the difficult decision to separate. Sharon is now a single mum to two beautiful children, Paige who is 12 and Isaac who is 4. They are her whole world.

Not long after the separation, Sharon received heartbreaking news from home. Her father passed away unexpectedly. She was extremely close to her dad and used her savings to travel back to Mauritius to attend his funeral and say goodbye. Shortly after returning to Australia, Sharon noticed a lump in her breast and went to see her doctor.

When the results came back, it was not the news any of us were hoping for. Sharon was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.

Sharon is now facing a long and overwhelming treatment journey. She is scheduled to have surgery on February 18 to remove the cancer and affected lymph nodes. Before chemotherapy begins, Sharon will start Zoladex injections, which are given regularly throughout her chemotherapy treatment to help protect her ovaries. These injections, along with chemotherapy and radiation, will make it impossible for Sharon to work or manage daily life on her own. She currently works part time as a cleaner at a high school in Melton, Melbourne. Once chemotherapy starts, she will no longer be able to work, which will make things incredibly difficult financially.

Sharon does not have family in Australia to support her through treatment. Her mother and her four sisters live in Mauritius and we are hoping to bring her mum to Australia for six to twelve months so she can help care for Sharon and the kids. This includes taking Sharon to hospital and chemo appointments, helping with meals, housework, and making sure Paige and Isaac are looked after while their mum focuses on getting better.

Sharon also does not have a car or a driver’s licence and currently relies on public transport. This fundraiser will help cover the cost of taxis and Ubers, especially on chemotherapy days when travelling will be exhausting and uncomfortable.

The funds raised will help Sharon cover basic living costs while she is unable to work, pay for transport to and from medical appointments, and help bring her mum to Australia so she does not have to go through this alone.

Any donation, no matter how small, would mean the world to Sharon and her children. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read Sharon’s story and for any support you are able to give.

With love and gratitude,
Valerie
