Help ShaRhonda's Fight Against Scleroderma
Donation protected
My name is Shaunta and I am the sister of ShaRhonda (Shay). In 2023, she was diagnosed with Scleroderma which is a condition that causes chronic hardening and tightening of the skin, and connective tissues. It usually affects the the fingers, hands, feet, and face, initially. Scleroderma is a complex autoimmune disorder leading to inflammation and scarring of the lung tissue. There is no cure for this disease, only medications to slow down the progress. Scleroderma has majorly affected ShaRhonda's esophagus, lungs, and lung function.
ShaRhonda is beginning a long and difficult journey toward receiving a lung transplant. She will initially have to travel to Dallas for multiple appointments for lung transplant evaluations including brain scans, heart catheterization, blood work, and other procedures. During these beginning stages, she will be required to spend at least a week away from the comfort of her home and children. Lung transplantation involves more than just surgery. The evaluation, waiting for a transplant, and recovery following surgery are all part of a long journey for ShaRhonda and her family.
The evaluation process is extensive and includes numerous specialist consultations such as gastroenterology, dermatology, and dietary care, among others. With multiple procedures scheduled and the need to travel far from home, the journey ahead is not only emotionally and physically demanding but also financially burdensome. The toll that Scleroderma has taken on her body affects her ability to complete everyday tasks and meet work responsibilities, making this already difficult process even more challenging for ShaRhonda and her family. All donations will go directly to ShaRhonda to help cover her medical and living expenses during this time.
