At AADMIXX Design+Build Studio here in Tampa, we believe modern residential architecture deserves a seat at the table—even (especially) in historic neighborhoods like Hyde Park. Think about that. If we aren’t always welcoming and encouraging progress then how is the current and next generation(s) supposed to add meaningful new layers to history’s future narrative? We understand the fear factor. Too often, the public fears modern design because they’ve only seen poorly executed versions by developers cutting corners. We get it and we’re working to change that. With the help of the USF School of Architecture & Community Design, we’re leading a two-part academic design studio that challenges students to create thoughtful, modern homes for a real lot in a specific district in Hyde Park called Dobyville. In 2023 we personally invested and raised funds to develop high-level digital and physical models to give students the tools to design in real neighborhood context, proving that modern and historic homes can coexist beautifully. This time around, AADMIXX is investing again to upgrade the digital model but with your help we are hoping to raising additional funds to offer a $1,000 scholarship to the student with the most compelling design. The winner is to be selected by public vote at a final presentation at Hyde House in Hyde Park Village this June 25th (time TBD). While this is an academic effort, we’re inviting local city staff to join the conversation and help bridge the gap between policy, preservation, and progress. With your support, we can inspire future architects and shift the narrative around how modern residential design can be perceived.
