Our dad, Doug, is one of the kindest, most caring men you could ever meet. He has spent his life giving to his family, helping others, and putting the people he loves before himself. Now, he is the one who desperately needs help.
After surviving a nearly fatal case of COVID, our dad was left with Stage V kidney failure and severe, debilitating neuropathy. Every day, he lives with agonizing pain, burning, numbness, and weakness in his feet and legs. The pain has taken away so many of the simple things most of us take for granted—sleeping peacefully, walking comfortably, traveling, enjoying time with family, and waking up without fear of another painful day.
We have watched our dad try treatment after treatment, hoping each one might finally bring him relief. Unfortunately, nothing has worked. It is heartbreaking to see someone who has always been so strong and full of life suffer every single day.
We are now raising funds to help him pursue a stem cell treatment at a clinic in Arizona that has experience treating patients with neuropathy following COVID. Although no treatment can promise a specific outcome, we are holding tightly to the hope that this therapy may help support nerve healing, reduce his pain and numbness, and give him a chance to reclaim some of the life this illness has taken from him.
Our initial $13,000 of our $32,000 goal will help cover a portion of the treatment cost ($28,000), travel, lodging, and other necessary expenses. He will have to take two trips to Arizona and stay three days each time. Every donation—no matter the amount—brings our dad one step closer to receiving this care.
More than anything, we want our dad to experience joy again. We want him to sleep without unbearable pain, spend meaningful time with his children, grandchildren and loved ones, travel, laugh, and look forward to the future. We want him to have hope.
If Doug has ever touched your life, made you smile, helped you through a difficult time, or shown you kindness, please consider helping him now. No one should have to live in relentless pain, and our family cannot do this alone.
Please donate if you are able, and share this fundraiser with your family, friends, coworkers, churches, and community. Sharing Doug’s story is just as meaningful and may help us reach someone who can make a difference.
If you are interested in learning more about his story, you can purchase his book “98 Days – A True COVID-19 Story” on Amazon.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your prayers, generosity, compassion, and support. Every donation and every share means more to our family than words can express.
With love and gratitude,
Doug’s Family
