Hi everyone,
My name is Shantoy, and I’m from Darliston, Westmoreland, Jamaica. I am currently studying in the United States, but my family and community back home have been severely affected by Hurricane Melissa, which devastated much of Jamaica.
My mother’s house was completely destroyed, along with her small restaurant that was her main source of income. Two of my aunts also lost their homes, and my grandmother’s roof was torn off. Many families in my community have lost everything including their loved ones and are now without shelter, food, or clean water. Communication has been extremely limited, and I have been relying on social media videos and brief updates from others to learn about the extent of the damage.
I’m starting this GoFundMe to raise some funds to help my family rebuild their homes and livelihoods and to support others in the community who are struggling to recover. The funds will go toward:
Rebuilding and repairing homes
Providing food, water, and essential supplies
Helping my mother restart her small business so she can sustain herself and continue serving others in the community
Even the smallest donation helps. If you are unable to give, please consider sharing this campaign so it can reach more people. Every bit of support matters and brings us closer to recovery and hope.
Thank you for your compassion and generosity during this difficult time.
I will add photos as they become available.
