My name is Shannon, and I have been out of work since 2023 due to a series of serious health challenges. My husband is currently our sole provider, and I am struggling with frequent blackouts that can happen at any time. These episodes have caused me to injure myself multiple times—I've hit my face against windows, landed on my head, and bruised my legs and arms. Most recently, I fell down the stairs head first and broke my shoulder in two places, which now requires physical therapy.

In addition to these injuries, I deal with neuropathy in my feet and lower legs from diabetes, as well as three herniated discs and spinal stenosis. I was receiving back injections to manage the pain, but my insurance started denying coverage, so it’s been a while since I’ve had any relief. I have traveled to Philadelphia to see specialists, and recently, my doctors added POTS to my list of diagnoses, which means my heart rate is always high. I also see a psychiatrist for anxiety and depression, which have become more difficult to manage with everything going on.

Because of my blackouts, I am unable to drive, and my neurologist has advised me not to walk alone. I am unable to work and have applied for social security, but I have been fighting for approval since 2023 with the help of a lawyer. This has left me mostly homebound, and the financial strain is growing. I am asking for help to cover medical expenses, prescriptions that aren’t covered by insurance, travel expenses for doctor appointments, and costs for out-of-town visits.
