My name is Betty Colins and I am trying to raise funds for my daughter Shannon Rands. Shannon was diagnosed in March 2015 with cervical cancer and received chemotherapy. She was in remission until March, 2017, when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 cervical cancer. At that time she went through chemotherapy again along with radiation. In June of 2016, due to the radiation her bowel perforated and she ended up in the hospital where she underwent eight surgeries. She also had several fistulas in her stomach that leaked quite a bit and they were unable to fix that. After one of the surgeries she ended up with what was previously known as "drop foot" and she could no longer walk.
Just before Thanksgiving, 2016, she was sent to Clark County Rehab as there were no nursing homes in our area that could accommodate her as she had to be fed through IV: (Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) is a method of providing all the necessary nutrients)and that had to be done by a nurse. She also could not walk. Clark County Rehab was not aware of all of this and they were told she could walk with assistance. When she arrived and they saw how much care she needed they advised they could not do it as they didn’t have the staff and weren’t equipped to take care of someone with all her medical needs. They were very understanding and kind. An ambulance was contacted and she was then taken to St Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, WI. They were able to take care of her and did surgery on her feet so she could eventually walk again. Eventually, she was sent to a nursing/rehab center in Marshfield where she spent several more months. During all this time, she had sepsis several times and almost died. She was finally released on Good Friday, 2017. She had spent 10 months in the hospitals and rehab at that point.
After being in remission for approximately 8 years, we just found out her cancer has returned. We do not yet know how bad or how far and are awaiting the results. She will probably need chemo and possibly radiation again if her body can tolerate it. I've had to take her to the cities for her last two appointments and we don't yet know if she will have to do chemo there or not. I'm hoping and praying this GoFundMe page will help with costs for gas and possibly motel rooms if we need to stay in the cities. Shannon has started planning for her funeral and needs help with that cost also.
Anyone who knows myself or Shannon, knows this is very difficult, asking for help, but at this point, I don't feel we have much choice.
Also, due to the bowel perforation and other medical issues, she has an ostomy bag (for urine) and a colostomy bag.
Thank you for your time.

Shannon's OB/oncologist is going to be calling her Tuesday to let her know what type of cancer she has, if it's spread and what her options are. Shannon is afraid, as am I of what the doctor tells us. I will be with Shannon when the doctor calls.
She told me she's thinking positive, but is realistic. She has picked out a casket, a red one as she loves red. I have trouble with that, but she wants me to be realistic.
We have received several donations and are very grateful for that, especially with today's economy and uncertainty. Thank you!
