Please join me in surrounding Derek and Shannon with love and support as they navigate an unimaginable medical emergency.

For the past several weeks, Derek and Shannon have been living through the unthinkable. Derek, the breadwinner of their home, was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a condition where the immune system attacks the nerves causing paralysis.

Derek was hospitalized for two weeks undergoing testing and care, before being moved into an inpatient rehabilitation center where he does physical therapy to learn how to walk and use muscles again, as well as daily speech therapy. He is expected to recover fully, but it may take up to a year for him to be at 95%.

When Derek returns home, Shannon will be his full-time caregiver in addition to continuing to care for their beautiful little girl, Daisy. As the financial provider of their family, Derek’s absence from work, in addition to large medical bills, has created a huge financial stress for their sweet family.
