Our dear friend, Shanna Uhila, is an extraordinary Pacific Islander activist in East Palo Alto, whose leadership and spirit of giving have transformed the lives of many in her community. Unfortunately in this year of COVID, Shanna needs our support.
Update: Shanna has been able to find housing for now, but her doctors say that stress has put her health at high risk. She has been told to rest and not take any work for 1-2 months, but is not in a financial position to do that.
Serving her community
As an activist for Anamatangi Pacific Voices, Shanna is a leader in supporting the underserved Pacific Islander families in East Palo Alto.
Fallout from COVID
As COVID has ripped through the East Palo Alto community, people have been forced to live together in tighter quarters resulting in an increased demand for services. Many living situations that would have normally been available are not right now because of COVID risks of interacting with seniors, and she needs to find her own place.
Even in the midst of all of this, Shanna continues to help in whatever way she can, whether advocating for juvenile justice, finding a warehouse for farmworker supplies, or distributing baby clothes to needy families.
Why we’re doing this
We’ve started this campaign because we believe in Shanna and know that every dollar you contribute will be multiplied in the service Shanna gives to others. Shanna will use your donations to rest and recover her health and then relaunch herself in a stable situation.
Our world needs grassroots activists like Shanna to help build our post-COVID future. Shanna has the solid commitment, life knowledge, and faith to be a leader in East Palo Alto's recovery.
We're deeply grateful for your support.
Thank you,
Friends of Shanna
