Help Shanice Rebuild After Fire

Hi, my name is Shanice. I’m 28 years old, a college student, and a proud Bridgeport, CT resident. Three weeks ago, my younger brother and I moved into the upstairs apartment of my mom’s home, ready to start a new chapter as I prepared for my final semester of college. But on Sunday, June 22nd, everything changed.

A fire broke out in the attic of our home and quickly made its way down to our second-floor apartment. By the time the fire was put out, my bedroom, kitchen, and living room were completely destroyed. What wasn’t ruined by flames was severely damaged by smoke and water.

Firefighters and city inspectors later told us that it will take 9 to 12 months before our home is safe and livable again. Right now, my family and I are staying in hotels, unsure of what our next move will be. This fundraiser will help us cover emergency costs, including:

As a full-time student, I rely on my laptop for everything: attending online classes, completing assignments, communicating with professors, and submitting work. My summer class starts next month and my final semester starts in August, and without a laptop, I can’t keep up. This is an incredibly stressful and uncertain time, but I’m trying to stay focused on hopefully graduating next year and rebuilding our lives.
