Help Shane & Sylvia in tough times

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Sylvia. We are a family of 4. I have started this fund to seek assistance during our hard time. Shane and I are usually proud people and rarely ask for help. So putting this up is a lot for us.

A bit about me: I usually work as a casual night shift, registered nurse. I’m casual as we have a disabled daughter. Eva has Spina Bifida and is basically a para who is a full time wheelchair user. Eva has multiple health problems and multiple appointments at the Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) and in the community. I’m often contacted during the day as Eva Will has a seizure and need picking up from school. Our youngest daughter has some PTSD from her sisters hospitalisation and needs a lot of TLC. It certainly hasn’t been easy. My Husband started working away so I could be home more but then everything went up and I had to continue to work to make ends meet as his income has not been enough.

May and June have been incredibly tough. On 31/5 - Eva had surgery at PCH. She had liposuction on her lower back to reduce pain and allow more movement. Surgery was to reduce a large fatty lipoma on her lower back. Eva was in hospital for a week. A parent needs to stay especially with her needs, I did her catheters, organised her CPAP and turned her as per surgeons post operative orders. She returned to hospital though as her wound continued to leak large amounts. She had a follow up appointment with good outcomes. Eva continues to heal at home.

June 13th I had a pain procedure at Murdoch SurgiCentre. Had larger needles placed for a Rhizotomy with epidural. I continue to heal at home.

June 18th - I was on my way to pick my youngest daughter up from school where I had someone pull out into my right of way and and I had no reaction time. I hit the other vehicle at full force of 60km/hr. My disabled daughter was on board. I was lucky by standers assisted my daughter with great concern. As far as I am aware no major injuries. I have a concussion and I continue to heal. A lot of bruising, stiffness and soreness for both Eva and I.

I haven’t been able to work as I’ve been looking after my daughter and my self after the pain procedure. The motor vehicle accident (MVA) was totally unexpected. I had just filled the car with fuel and it was written off in the accident. RAC paid me out and I only have just bought another vehicle. RAC don’t pay for all that was lost and broken of personal items in the smash as it’s capped at $500. That’s it. I have a rental vehicle as part of my policy. I’ve had to, out of pocket, pay an upfront amount for the rental as part of the agreement and policy with RAC and Budget. I’ve had to fill that with fuel and will need to fill it with fuel to return it as part of the rental agreement. I’ve filled my new car with fuel. I’ve paid my daughters Doctor appointments and medicines as well as mine. Given its MVA, the Doctor appointments costs a lot more than standard appointments. Same with prescriptions they are more expensive regardless of concession. Only so much private health covers.

ICWA have not determined fault or if they will cover the appointments and can take a while to do.

As you can appreciate, the unexpected MVA has completely delayed my return to work and ultimately, has put a financial strain on our family. We were stretched prior to the accident.

Bills continue to roll in and Eva still needs her ongoing medications for her disability as well as the additional pain medications that cost a lot given they are private scripts due to the MVA.

While I was in Royal Perth Trauma (RPH) ED, I had X-Rays and CT scans. I had been given a diagnosis by accidental finding. There is a 1-2cm lump on my thyroid. I am going to get bloods and scans in 6 weeks and then see surgeons at Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH). It was a hell of a shock for both Shane and I. We are hoping for the best outcome with it all.

Please consider donating. Know your donation will pay rent, pharmaceuticals as well as doctor appointments. It certainly will not be pissed up the wall. It will allow my self and daughter time to heal as well as give us the financial break we need and hopefully get back on our feet. We appreciate everyone is strapped financially as is and we appreciate you may not be able to donate.

We appreciate your time for reading this far.

I do apologise if something doesn’t make sense. My concussion can make it appear different to me. But I hope it gets the point across. Will post pictures if I can to prove the point.

Love
Shane, Eva, Zara and Sylvia.
