Hi everyone,
My name is Shawna Stewart, and I am creating this fundraiser on behalf of my brother, Shane Stewart, who lives in Kingston, Jamaica with his wife and their two boys.
We are thanking God that their lives were spared during the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa, but the storm left behind significant damage to their home and their sense of security. The roof was badly damaged, their children’s beds are soaked, and much of their clothing and household items were destroyed.
As many of you may know, Hurricane Melissa affected the entire island of Jamaica, and while the country is doing its best to recover, resources are limited and stretched thin. Government and relief agencies must first focus on the most severe emergencies, people who are trapped, injured, or have lost loved ones, meaning families like my brother's may wait months before they receive any form of assistance.
Unlike larger countries, Jamaica simply doesn’t have the infrastructure or financial resources to rebound quickly from a hurricane of this magnitude. Even in the United States, we’ve seen how long recovery can take after a major storm, and Jamaica has far fewer systems in place to help families get back on their feet.
My brother Shane is a proud, hardworking man who has always provided for his family. As his sister, I want to make sure he and his family have a safe place to live and the basic necessities they need to begin rebuilding.
All donations will go directly toward:
Repairing the roof and structural damage to their home
Replacing their children’s beds and clothing
Purchasing food, clean water, and household essentials
Any amount you can give, big or small, will make a difference. Please keep Shane, his family, and the people of Jamaica in your prayers as they work to recover from this disaster.
Thank you so much for your generosity, compassion, and prayers.
– Shawna Stewart
