On Tuesday afternoon, November 11th, my dad, Shane Hewitt, suffered a major heart attack just as he was getting into the car so I could take him to the ER. I had to call 911 and begin CPR until the police arrived and used an AED to restart his heart. When the ambulance came, they rushed him to the hospital where doctors immediately began working to save his life.
A CT scan ruled out head bleeding from his collapse, but as they were wheeling him back into the ER so we could see him before the Cath Lab took him, his heart went out of rhythm again — essentially a second heart attack. He was shocked 3 to 4 more times before they were able to stabilize him.
Doctors placed four stents to open several blocked arteries — one was 100% blocked, and others were over 80%. He still has other arteries between 60–80% blocked that will require more stents in the coming weeks, once he’s strong enough to undergo another procedure.
He was in the Critical Care Unit being closely monitored and in immense pain from the CPR and shocks but is staying strong, as he always does. He is home as of Thursday afternoon and will go back in 2-3 weeks for another procedure.
My dad is the hardest-working man I know, someone who’s always done everything he can to provide for his family. With this sudden medical emergency and a long recovery ahead, he’ll be unable to work for months.
Funds raised will go directly toward hospital bills, daily living expenses, and the cost of new medications and ongoing treatment. Unfortunately, my dad does not have medical insurance, which means these expenses will fall entirely on him as he focuses on recovering and healing over the next few months.
I’m beyond grateful that I knew how to give CPR and that everything aligned that day to save his life. We’re just so thankful he’s still here with us — and any help, prayers, or shares mean more than words can say.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
The Hewitt Family
