Hi I'm Shane. I am a dad of 2 kids (6 & 5). A few years back I moved from Texas to the eastern shore of Maryland so my kids could be closer to their mom's family. The job Market was tough, but after a while I was able to find a job that I loved.
At the end of summer 2025, my job was eliminated and I was out of work. I have been unable to find anything since. I lost my car because I couldn't make the payments, which makes job searching much more difficult. Now I am facing eviction. If I lose my home, I will also lose the shared custody of my kids. Being able to spend time with them and be an active dad is the number one most important thing in my life. I'm trying to save that.
Here's where I am with everything right now.
- I have several applications in for rental assistance. These wont come in time to save me from eviction, but they will help going forward
- I have borrow as much from friends and family as I can to make it to this point. Their help has been amazing.
- I am continuing to search for work and at this point will take anything offered if I can sustain myself on it. I will work multiple jobs if I need to.
- If I am evicted, I have enough for a small storage unit for some of my stuff and the kids stuff. I don't have family or friends in the area, so I wont have a place to stay.
- I have already contacted a shelter. It is first come first serve.
- I have never been homeless.
- I don't drink or use drugs
- I am college educated
- I could have never imagined that I would end up here.
That's my story. I am only asking for enough to avoid eviction. After that, It's on me and I will figure it out.
