The Gordon-Smith family has faced more in the past few years than most families experience in a lifetime.
In early 2024 their 16-year-old son (and brother), Ellis, died tragically during lunch at school. A GoFundMe was launched by friends to help them get through the time needed to grieve and heal.
Later that same year Karen was trying to get over what she thought was a sinus infection. After repeated visits to her doctor, and finally ending up in the Emergency room in excruciating pain, they received more devastating news.
Karen was diagnosed with Glioblastoma , a rare and extremely aggressive Brain Cancer .
Karen has been courageously fighting glioblastoma since October 2024. She had her first craniotomy in that same month.Followed by radiation and chemotherapy. She underwent her second craniotomy Dec 2025 .And unfortunately as this cancer is extremely aggressive she has undergone her third craniotomy Jan 23 2026.
Alongside the emotional toll, this journey has placed an overwhelming financial strain on her family. She is unable to work, and her husband, Shane, has had to take significant time off to support her through countless appointments and surgeries as well as complications after surgery.
As the strain continues to grow, we are reaching out to our community once again for help with everyday bills and upcoming medical and care-related expenses. Having this support will ease some of the financial pressure and allow Karen, Shane, and their daughter, Fay, to focus on being together and preparing for the road ahead.
Any donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference and is deeply appreciated. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.
