I’m hoping to raise funds on behalf of my step-daughter, Shanda. As some of you know, she’s been dealing with a pretty abusive relationship for a long time. As a survivor of an abusive relationship myself, I can’t tell you how hard it is to finally get out. Some pretty scary things have happened recently, including her ex threatening her life. She has been trying to get her and her three kids out of this situation, and it’s become very necessary to get legal help. The dad has been consistently threatening to take the kids from her. This is a man who has no living space of his own and is a violent convicted felon, but due to his time in the court system, he has been more savvy with court matters than Shanda until we found out about this and stepped in. Shanda has basically been a single mom her entire relationship with her ex, but he is trying to take custody of the kiddos. She is scared for herself and for her kids. We have hired a lawyer on initial retainer, but it sounds like it’s going to be a long road and be beyond the resources we have. Any help you can give will be very much appreciated. She’s in a pretty harrowing situation and doing the best she can. Many thanks.
