I have a story to share with you about Shamicka, who is 31 years old. She is a wonderful and caring young lady whose dream to become a neurosurgeon halted, upon losing both of her kidneys as a result of Lupus Nephritis. Shamicka received a transplant four years ago, and was looking forward to resuming her life and to return to school.  Woefully, the kidney did not last, because in June 2020, the kidney stopped functioning and once again, Shamicka is at the crossroads, seeking another kidney transplant. The advent of COVID-19, will render getting a kidney difficult because more people than before are seeking transplants. There is something I must ask you and it is really hard to do, so please hear me out. 

Could you please help me secure some funds towards paying for a kidney transplant for Shamicka? If you do, her chances for successfully obtaining a kidney will increase significantly. She is trying to obtain a kidney from a live donor, because waiting to receive one from a donor who has died takes a very long time. This means Shamicka may have to be on the wait list for three to four years, before getting a kidney that would work for her. Besides, not many people die in a way that allows their kidney to be donated.

Currently, Shamicka is on dialysis to keep her alive while she waits for a kidney. She spends 10 hours a day hooked onto a dialysis machine. This causes many health problems, so she is hoping to obtain a kidney sooner, rather than later.  These are difficult times for us all in one way or another. I am asking for your help on  Shamicka’s behalf.  Please do not feel pressured to give but, any assistance, great and small, will be tremendously appreciated.
