Help Shamail Save Her Family from Taliban Persecution
Donation protected
My name is Shamail Tawana Nasiri. I’m a 29-year-old Afghan refugee who arrived in the United States in August 2023 after fleeing the Taliban’s oppressive regime. Back in Afghanistan, I was an outspoken advocate for women’s rights, which led the Taliban to target me. They circulated my photo on social media, intent on arresting me for protesting their laws that suppress women’s freedoms.
“In my country, women are not allowed to be educated, ride bikes, drive cars, speak in public, show our faces, or even travel without a male guardian.”
The Taliban’s brutality wasn’t just threats. They beat my sister and me so severely that we couldn’t walk for two weeks. We couldn’t seek medical help, fearing arrest. Over two years, they raided my home five times. I lived in constant fear, moving from place to place to survive.
While I’ve found safety in America, my family remains in grave danger. We are Hazara, a minority ethnic and religious group in Afghanistan that the Taliban seeks to eliminate. Recently, they arrested my sister and tortured her for 16 days. I am desperate to help my family escape to Pakistan, where they can find relative safety. However, this requires obtaining visas and covering travel expenses.
How You Can Help
We are raising funds to:
• Secure visas for my family members
• Cover travel and relocation expenses to Pakistan
• Provide initial support for housing and basic needs upon arrival
Every dollar brings us closer to reuniting our family in safety. Your support can help us escape persecution and start anew.
Please consider donating and sharing our story. Together, we can make a difference.
