Over the last few years, many of you have watched my journey in real time. At 30 years old, I earned my high school diploma. At 32, I completed my Associate’s degree at Central Piedmont Community College. Now at 34, I am finishing up my Bachelor’s degree at Johnson C. Smith University in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Pre-Law. I’ve worked hard to stay focused and involved while maintaining a 3.8 cumulative GPA. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to play right field for two seasons on the JCSU Women’s Softball Team, compete on the JCSU Bowling Team, serve as Senior Class Senator, and receive recognition as a Continuing the Dream (Delta Sigma Theta) Scholarship recipient and a Canopy Foundation Award winner. None of this came easy—I’ve stayed consistent, disciplined, and committed. At the same time, I’m raising two children while navigating the reality of how expensive life and education are right now. Tuition, books, gas, food, housing, childcare—it all adds up quickly. As a non-traditional student and a parent, I don’t have the luxury of focusing on school alone. Every step forward is a balance between investing in my education and making sure my kids are taken care of. My goal is to attend law school and become an attorney who helps people understand their rights before it’s too late. So many people lose housing, money, or opportunities simply because they don’t know the law or don’t know where to turn. I want to bring civil rights education, contract knowledge, and wills and estate planning resources back to the communities that raised me.
