Help Shakina continue to live her passion and teach others

Hi, my name is Reba. Shakina and I co-parent our teen son. Shakina is a long-time resident of Ashland. Many of you reading this know her. Some of you may have had your kids in her summer classes. Shakina was recently in a car accident. While her body is going to be ok, her car was totaled. Her insurance paid out less than $2000 as compensation for totaling it. Shakina earns all of her yearly income during the summer offering wilderness-based classes to children and adults in her community. Shakina relies on her car for her only income. Last year, the passenger van she was using to shuttle her students to the surrounding forests broke down so catastrophically, she couldn't afford to repair it. So, Shakina flexed and began using her 4Runner to shuttle. Shakina is a teacher at heart. Teaching connection and wilderness craft is what she loves and where she shines. She recently told me that many of the pre-teens in her classes today are those she has been teaching since they were in kindergarten. Despite her reliance on enrollment in her classes for her income, she provides scholarships for low-income kids to attend. She even finds backpacks and water bottles for them, if needed. Shakina is dedicated. She spent a few winters living in a wall tent without running water or electricity to reconnect with the land. She currently lives in a straw-bale home off the grid relying on solar for refrigeration and electricity. She is currently enrolled in college to get her Master's in Wilderness Education and is doing great despite the stressors of very low-income living. Her deepest joys are our son, plants, animals, and teaching people of all ages and backgrounds about the abundance of our forests. She never stops reveling in the amazing interconnectedness of all life. She has a firm belief that no matter how hard it gets, her connectedness will help her survive. I would like us, as her community and family to help her survive, even thrive, now. Please donate. My goal is for her to be able to purchase a reliable 4WD vehicle that is big enough for her to transport students. She can accomplish great things with a little support. Please, let's do this!
