Hi, my name is Morgan Lam and I live in Brussels, Belgium. I made this GoFundMe for my dear friend Shaker Abuijlan who also lives in Brussels and is trying to raise funds for his family in Gaza.

My name is Shaker, I am 28 years old from Gaza and I live in Brussels. I never imagined that I would have to ask anyone to help my family, because we consider it an insult to our dignity, but because of the harsh and difficult circumstances, I was forced to do this in order to help my family who is living in the middle of this difficult war. Nowhere is safe there.

My family consists of 12 people : my mother, my father, my brothers Muhammad, Abdullah, and Mahmoud, university students whose university was destroyed by the occupation, my sister Aya, who studies nursing but whose university was also destroyed by the occupation, my sister Abeer and her two young children, Hassan (6) and Muhammad (2), and my sister, Tasnim, and her two young children, Muhammad (3) and Zayed (5).

My beautiful family was living in the depths of the Gaza Strip in love and peace in our warm home in the city of Khan Yunis, in the south of Gaza, until the war began on October 7. And since that day, everything has changed. Pain, screaming, destruction and fear are everywhere. This coincided with the interruption of all basic means of life, including water, electricity, food, and Internet. My family lived the worst days of their life under the lights of war and the hardship of living in a time of ongoing conflict. The continuous bombing devastated the neighborhood and the homes around them, every day it was getting worse. Every day was a battle for survival.

One day in December, after an intense bombing, our family home in the city of Khan Yunis was severely damaged. After this disaster, life became even more difficult. There was no safe shelter for the family, who was displaced several times to escape bombing and death. The first time, my family was displaced to the city of Rafah on the border with Egypt where living conditions became more difficult and unbearable. They were not able to meet the minimum requirements for living as aid has been prevented from entering. Also, due to the outrageous price of some goods, if they were available in the market my family couldn't afford them.

After displacement to Rafah, due to poor care, unhealthy nutrition, and the spread of diseases, my mother and sister became ill, and the family's situation worsened with their illness.

After that, the family was displaced again to Khan Yunis in harsher conditions than the first displacement. The family now lives in a tent on the seafront area in Khan Yunis, a tent that is useless in the summer or in the winter, and without the minimum necessities for life.

I write this story with great pain, not knowing whether I will see my family again or not.

All I hope is to see my family again and not lose them.

My family needs €200 per day in order to live and obtain food (without meat) for the entire family and milk for four children as well as essential medicine.

At the moment it is not possible to evacuate, as the Rafah crossing has been taken over and closed by Israeli forces, so Shaker's family has no choice but to stay in Gaza for now.
