Shae was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at just 12 months old, and River received the same diagnosis at 23 months. Since then, our family has been tethered to phones and devices, constantly monitoring their blood glucose levels. While technology has been a lifeline, it has also meant that Shae and River have less independence, and I worry about emergencies when they are not right by my side. Every day, we do our best to keep them safe, but the fear of missing a sudden change in their blood sugar is always present.
A trained diabetic alert dog would be life-changing for our family. These incredible dogs are able to sense dangerous changes in blood glucose before devices can, providing an extra layer of safety and peace of mind. With a diabetic alert dog, Shae and River could gain more independence, and I could feel more confident letting them explore the world around them. The funds raised will go directly toward the cost of the trained dog and the travel expenses needed to bring this new companion home.
We are so grateful for any support you can offer. In the words of Shae and River: “Can we get a dog to help we with our blood sugars.” Your kindness will help give our girls the freedom and security they deserve. Thank you for being part of our journey.
