Hi all,
This is Shadow, my nearly 3 year old male cat. I got him in December of 2018 and he's been by my side ever since. He helped me through my last semester of college, a great personal loss, and he continues to help me through all the ups and downs of life.
This past January, Shadow developed a urinary blockage caused by minerals clumping together in his urethra. This is a common issue among male cats. The blockage leads to a build up of toxins I'm their kidneys and bladder because they are unable to use the litter box, which can become fatal very quickly. I was able to get a small procedure done that removes the blockage, was given a prescription diet for him, and all was good for a few months.
In the first week up July, Shadow developed another blockage. A vet was able to get rid of it without surgery, but he reblocked the next day and I took him back to an ER to get the same surgery he got in January to remove it. He recovered well, but as he has blocked 3 times, he is more likely to reblock again. This is where the fundraiser comes in.
There is a procedure for male cats called a perineal urethrostomy that drastically reduces the likelihood that a male cat will develop another blockage. However, the procedure is very expensive, and with bills to pay and having used a credit card and savings to pay for his previous procedures, I don't have the funds for it.
Any money raised through this fundraiser will go directly to the cost of the surgery and the medication he will need to ensure he recovers fully. Any help would be greatly appreciated and would help ensure Shadow gets to live a long and full life surrounded with his favorite toys and his human that couldn't imagine what it would be like without him near. Thank you!
