With the timing landing just before the holiday season, we’re raising funds to cover urgent relocation costs so we can secure a new space, keep shipping orders, and avoid shuttering our small, mission-driven business.

Hello, Shalaco here. I run SFinBloom, a small business dedicated to inspiring people to support beneficial insects by planting native wildflowers. By offering a simple, accessible source for native seeds, we’re able to fund education, advocacy, and hands-on workshops.

After reporting the repeated theft of thousands of dollars’ worth of customer orders from our building lobby — thefts that were threatening the sustainability of our business — we immediately received a notice terminating our lease.

We had recently moved into this workspace with the goal of scaling our operations and bringing down product costs. Instead, we were blindsided by a sudden and unexpected lease termination. When asked for the cause, we were told that none was required.

The timing of this notice, just before the holiday sales season, left us unable to operate with certainty that we could fulfill holiday orders. Without a stable space to store inventory and ship products, our only source of revenue is at risk. We had just restocked for the holidays, and being forced into relocation on this timeline made it impossible to operate at full capacity or confidently fulfill commitments to customers.

We are fully invested in preparing for spring and cannot afford to relocate our business during this planning phase. Shuttering would terminate our only source of income, creating a downward spiral of critical failures.

We’re raising funds to help cover the unexpected — and, in our view, unwarranted — costs of relocation so we can secure a new space and regain solid footing. This support will help us bridge a difficult moment and keep SFinBloom, and the work behind it, alive.

How Funds Will Be Used

• First and last month’s rent plus security deposit (estimated $3,000 + $3,000 + $3,000 = $9,000)

• Moving and storage costs (estimated $800)

Stretch goal: $5,000 toward legal and tenant advocacy support.

Lastly, any unused or additional funds will be used to advance our mission and support our education, advocacy work, and workshops.
