Hi! My name is Yasmír Navas-Boudreau. I am a first grade teacher in a Spanish-bilingual class in SFUSD. My first graders are curious, brilliant, kind and love new experiences. During the school year so far, we have learned about our government, why the places where we live are so special, what makes a community, and now we venturing into learning about good and services!
Many of our students know that in order to get what we need, we often go to grocery stores, farmer's markets, or corner stores. Their experiences of where the things we NEED to live come from are very limited, except for our school garden where we harvest veggies, some fruits we have grown, and flowers for our families.
This is why as a grade level, we would LOVE some help to fundraise to take these wonderful city kiddos to a REAL FARM where they can learn and appreciate how important farms are for us to survive. During this trip, kids will be able to touch sheep, learn about cows (and see them!) and understand where our milk, butter and cheese come from. They will also get to explore and learn about what a real organic farm is and use their senses to experience it.
With your help, these funds will help us get to our destination, which would require a charter bus to pick us up from our school and take us to the farm. We are a Title 1 school where 95% of our student population receive free/reduced school lunch, so having our parents pay for this trip would be a hardship. We understand that during these times there are many other causes to support, so we appreciate anything provided to us to help us create a fun and rich learning experience for our young learners.
Thank you so much for your time!!!
