Help Setzer's Family After Dental Distress

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to check out this fundraiser. We hate having to ask for help but, thanks to a long run of bad luck, here we are.

The little guy featured below is one of our amazing kitties, Setzer. Unfortunately, his teeth were not in the best shape when we adopted him from a shelter here in Chicago, and we soon found out that he needed to get some dental extractions done. However, as we were making arrangements for that procedure, my roommate and I were both laid off from our jobs during the infamous wave of tech layoffs that hit so many people early last year. While we are thankfully both employed once more, 2023 was a VERY tight year and Setzer’s teeth continued to deteriorate while we got back on our feet. As soon as we could, we got him back into the vet to get things back on track, but by then things had gotten to the point where he had to have all of his teeth removed in a much more intensive procedure.

Initially, we were going to make it work by putting the roughly $5000 bill on a credit card, knowing it was going to take a while for the both of us to chip away at. However, a number of other expenses have come through in rapid succession on top of this, and we're getting stretched pretty thin by the higher-than-anticipated interest on this vet bill.

Make no mistake though; this has been entirely worth the stress, the planning, and all of the readjustments to every curveball thrown our way. Setzer has infinitely more energy and personality now that he’s not dealing with such constant pain, and is the life of the party anytime we’ve been fortunate enough to invite our friends into our home.

Neither one of us is in the habit of asking for help, especially when we both know that so many others are in very similar circumstances themselves. However, we’ve seen firsthand how people have been able to lean on their communities when times were tight, and even been able to help where able in the past, and so we’ve set this up to try and get things back to a manageable point. We both tremendously appreciate any help you can offer, whether financially or sharing this socially!
