Help Seth Regensburg get on his feet and housed
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Christopher Tor Gooding, and along with Seth's sister Natalie Regensburg, we are starting a fundraiser to help get Seth back on his feet and into permanent housing. Sadly, Seth has fallen on rough times due to numerous chronic medical conditions, many of which arose as early as 1993, that have left him living on disability.
In May, amid severe escalation of medical conditions and associated symptoms, his residence was slated for renovation and placed on the market. With little more than a month's notice, all occupants were ordered to vacate.
On June 25, nearing the point of medical incapacitation, Seth went to the ER. Despite his lab results being far worse than previously, and new, serious findings, after a night and a day, he was discharged from the hospital.
With limited income, amid an inflated housing market, he resorted to living in a run down spartan motel room without so much as a microwave and a fridge. His health continued to decline, and by July 16, unable to walk, via ambulance, Seth left the motel for a different hospital's ER, where he was immediately rushed into ICU. After eleven harrowing days in the hospital, he was discharged, and returned to the same motel. Essentially, having to re-up his reservation daily and paying by the day.
Additionally, unable to drive, and due to lack of refrigeration and means of cooking, the extremely narrow spectrum of food items which he can tolerate and need for certain food items, available only in perishable form, to manage his chronic electrolyte deficiencies and pancytopenia, he relies on frequent Instacart orders, the fees and tips for which add up. Further straining his limited financial resources, his Medicare plan, the only one which all of his numerous providers accept, no longer covers his blood pressure medication, which now costs him $50 per month. Already, he faces recurring copays for numerous other daily medications, and a monthly Medicare premium. His Medicare plan doesn't cover medical transportation, and he often has to take Ubers to and from medical appointments. Topping it off, he may soon be required to pay as much as $3,000 in copays, coinsurance, and deductibles relating to his hospital stay.
As you can imagine, his already-meager income is stretched to the brink.
Seth is a devoted father of two amazing sons, who need him in their lives, and vice-versa. As an intrinsic nurturer, provider, and protector, by an immeasurably vast margin, the well-being of his loved ones is his greatest wish and priority. Despite having endured numerous chronic medical conditions and pain for decades, to support his family, Seth persevered, often working in excess of seventy hours per week, and proverbially drove it until the wheels fell off.
Needless to say, a dangerous, dilapidated, mold-infested motel is far from a safe environment for Seth's sons, both of whom also have medical issues. Even brief visits would be out of the question. These circumstances also place additional strain on his sons' mother, who also suffers from chronic, debilitating medical conditions. It would be an understatement to say that Seth and his sons long to reunite.
Seth has suffered many of the following conditions since as early as '93, at which time, he didn't have and couldn't afford insurance, and didn't qualify for Medicaid until 2008, and since, has become entangled, impeded, and overwhelmed by the most dysfunctional aspects of the U.S. healthcare industry. Especially with Medicare, to which he was required to transition after qualifying for disability, there are many hurdles and maddening complexities and ambiguities. Even with a caseworker, after a year and a half, he still struggles to get straight answers and clarification from the insurance company.

Through every available resource, Seth has long been on waitlists for subsidized housing, the current demand for which is unprecedented. Although he is nearing the top of two waitlists, it is far from free-of-cost, and rigid stipulations, protocol, and general beurocracy are impeding the process, and he can wait no longer. His current living arrangement has siphoned his financial resources, and is beyond untenable.
Our goal is to raise enough money to get Seth into a better living situation and help him with his bills so he can get established and his life back up and running in a stable fashion.
Any donation, no matter how large or small, would go a long way towards giving Seth a leg up on getting out of the unfortunate situation he has found himself in. Seth and I go way back and have remained friends over the years since we first met in high school back in Westminster, Maryland. As we all are very aware, hard times are frequently one small setback away for many of us... Unfortunately, Seth has had way more than one of those events, which have put him in the predicament he finds himself in. Please search your heart and your pockets and give him a hand on getting his life back into a stable living arrangement.
