Overview

On September 5, Serhiy suddenly lost much of his vision. Doctors discovered a tumor pressing on his optic nerve that needs urgent care. The first step, a biopsy in Tbilisi, is already completed, and the pathology result arrived on Monday, September 29. The treatment plan now moves to Gamma Knife radiosurgery in three sessions.

This is not only a medical emergency, it is also a heavy burden for the family. The trip from our home in Batumi to Tbilisi is nearly 400 km each way, with repeated travel for tests and treatment. Our two young sons are staying in Batumi with close friends, they miss their dad, while Serhiy and his wife spend days away from home facing medical uncertainty and serious expenses. Serhiy is the sole earner, so every day in treatment also means lost income on top of hospital bills.

Your support will cover the upcoming procedures, hospital stay, travel, and lodging, and will help this family get Serhiy the care he needs so he can return home and regain his sight.

What has been done:

Biopsy at Aversi Clinic is completed. Pathology is consistent with adult diffuse astrocytoma Grade 2. Biopsy and pathology are paid. Based on receipts totaling $3,500.

What comes next

Gamma Knife radiosurgery in three sessions in Tbilisi. The procedure phase is quoted at $8,000 to $10,000 dollars. Before treatment Serhiy needs a planning MRI and other pre treatment tests. After treatment he will need recovery care and follow up visits. Doctors may recommend additional Gamma Knife sessions later depending on the response.
