Help Bring Serg Home!

Donation protected
Sergio, like many, is a son, brother, uncle, and friend. Those who know him personally can attest to his contagious laugh and fantastic sense of humor, which light up any room. However, behind his smile, Sergio fought a dark internal battle that led to depression and addiction. Tragically, many who pretended to be his friends exploited his generosity during his drunken stupors and encouraged his self-destructive behavior. His cries for help went unheard due to the stigmas surrounding mental health in the Caribbean community. Consequently, he turned to self-medication, which led to an adverse reaction and caused him to commit unspeakable acts, landing him in serious legal trouble.

Despite his mistakes, Sergio has always been a stand-up guy, and his weaknesses should not be mistaken for wickedness. His family sought legal representation from someone they believed they could trust. However, because Sergio refused to take a plea deal and wanted to go to trial, the lawyer did not want to risk her reputation. Instead of ethically dismissing him or allowing another member of her firm to represent him, she waited until three days before his trial date to drop him as a client after collecting her $50,000 payment.

Sergio has now been awaiting trial for the last four years as the public legal system prolongs his time in jail by constantly switching public prosecutors and defenders, using every trick in the book to delay his right to a fair trial. Recently, the court granted him bond, but set the amount at an exorbitant $155,000, hoping to keep him incarcerated. The bail bondsman, who could reinstate the bond at a lower amount, refuses to do so because the previous lawyer is his wife and they refuse to help Sergio. This situation represents a clear conflict of interest, as well as unethical and unprofessional behavior.

To bring Sergio home, 10% of the bond amount needs to be paid for his release. This is where you can help. Any amount you contribute will be instrumental in getting Sergio out on bond while he awaits trial. He is ready to face the consequences of his actions but still deserves his humanity. He has two nephews he has never met, two nieces eagerly waiting to see him again, and his 40th birthday is approaching. Before he reenters the courtroom, potentially facing 20 years to life, he wants to be surrounded by the love and support of his real friends and family. Your donation can make this possible, and any amount is greatly appreciated.

Along with donating, sharing Sergio's GoFundMe on your social media can inspire others to contribute as well. Thank you for taking the time to read Sergio's story. God bless you.
