Help Sergio Reach Geneva for Graduation!

This crowdfund is organized and managed by a group of friends with the aim of reuniting our dear friend Sergio with the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Class of 2023 for our Graduation on the 20th of October.

After multiple applications over years, Sergio was awarded a full Academic Scholarship as a candidate for the Masters of Applied Studies in Transitional Justice, Human Rights and Rule of Law at the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. Although a committed and dedicated student, this last year did not come without its adversities for Sergio, including learning to live with the challenges of mental illness, limited financial support, academic pressures and being apart from family. Throughout it all, Sergio remained a bedrock of support, joy, and love for his friends and community in Geneva. Additionally, Sergio’s commitment to the protection of human rights remained steadfast - fuelling his dedication to his studies and professional contributions. As friends and members of the broader human rights community, we have no doubt that Sergio will fearlessly serve his calling to the protection of others with the humility, compassion, and grit he has demonstrated throughout this last year. Furthermore, following graduation, Sergio will serve as a thought leader for the reconciliation and healing of Colombia - his home state - with the skills, community, and learnings he has gained from the last year.

Currently based back in Colombia, Sergio is without the financial resources or capacity to return to Geneva to attend the Graduation Ceremony 2023. After a first surge of crowd funding amongst friends and family, we have collectively raised 560 Swiss francs (CHF). As recent graduates, our current circle of peers, friends and colleagues are without the financial capacity to fund this cause alone. Thus, we seek the support and generosity of the broader community to achieve this goal. We are seeking an additional 700 CHF to purchase a round-trip flight from Colombia to Geneva, Switzerland.

Our goal for this second surge of crowd funding is to raise this fund by the 1st of October. Time is crucial because tickets get more expensive as we near the date of travel. Any amount that you can support will make a world of difference.
