My name is Bryan Hickey. While we felt the impact of the storm here in Georgia, we got out pretty much safe and intact. Unfortunately, not everyone did. My lifelong friend, Sergei Stopek, lost everything to Hurricane Helene. While he and his dog Merlin are safe, his house was in Helene’s path. The storm surge completely flooded his house with over 5 feet of water. It will need to be taken all the way down to studs to start repair. Everything he owned was lost. While his hope and optimism remain high, he is essentially having to start over. Insurance will help cover a lot of the costs, but there remain those things that insurance won’t cover.

Sergei, a lifelong youth soccer coach and teacher, is not one to ask for help - as he is usually the one doing the helping. He has spent the last 2 decades supporting his community through teaching and coaching soccer.

Sergei is one of the kindest, most compassionate people I know. If it were me or any of his friends or colleagues in a similar situation - he’d be the first person there to help.
