Hello my name is Rosanne Vega I am the mother of Serenity Rodriguez and as many know my daughter has been battling Systemic Lupus Erythematosus which is an autoimmune disorder as well as kidney disease amongst other things due to this battle for the last year. But Serenity was just recently diagnosed with Avascular Necrosis which is a disease that kills your blood vessels which then in result makes your bones die due to lack of blood supply. In Serenitys case as of right now the blood vessels has died around her hips which has caused her hip bones to collapse and making it impossible for her to walk. It is a rare occurrence in someone as young as Serenity but also finding Systemic lupus at such a young age is also rare! Due to the fact Serenity was so young be time it was diagnosed Serenitys body and organs had completely shut down and she was dying! So the amazing team at Danville Children’s hospital jumped on it and hit Serenity with everything they had and knew about lupus and saved our baby, we will forever be grateful. But for the fact Serenity had to take such high dosage of steroids everyday for a year the effect of that unfortunately hit Serenity bad which is the disease Avascular necrosis. We've been blessed to have Serenitys case picked up by the director and top specialist of Avascular Necrosis at New Haven Yale Medicine in Connecticut, Dr. Wiznia as well as his amazing team. Dr. Wiznia has been an angel to our family, with giving Serenity the best treatments such as Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and all available options. We were able to receive the best news ever from Dr. Wiznia that he can help save Serenitys hips enough to prolong her from the full hip replacement and allow her to walk again and be able to go to her high school prom and walk the graduation aisle like she always dreamed of! But today we just received a devastating call with bad news that the surgery isn’t covered by our health insurance and we have to cover all cost! Serenitys surgery is scheduled for November 8th and I have filled out every form/application to mankind for financial help with the surgery…we have gotten further then we ever thought but still not enough to cover all the expenses in time which is the reason for this page! Everyone who knows me and is apart of my life knows I would never ever reach out in this way or any way in that matter if it wasn’t serious and I had no other option and our backs were in a corner! Our family is not doing this for sympathy we are very private people when it comes to our daughters health but we are just asking for help from family and friends to help save our daughter be able to live her life to the fullest such as any 18 year old teenager should be instead of in agony pain and confined to her bed and wheelchair because her bones are dying! Anything helps get us a step closer to her dream of Prom and Graduation!
