Hi, my name is Letoya Matthews, I am the aunt/God Mother of Serenity Roseboro who is a resident of Birmingham, Al. I was given permission by her mother Erica Matthews to start this fundraiser.
Serenity is a 9-year-old who has been sick for a while. Born into this world she started with noticeable stomach problems. As a single hard-working parent her mother fought hard to find doctors that would help explain why so many restless nights with cries from Serenity but yet not one doctor could find a solution in Birmingham, Al.
After years of seeking help, she ended up in Mobile, Al. In Mobile after multiple tests, she was diagnosed with Crohn Disease. After a couple of years of riding back and forward to Mobile Serenity's Crohn is more maintainable.
Over this past two years we have been noticing changes in Serenity that didn't seem normal. We notice if you're talking to her, she didn't respond, or she would miss the conversation. So, her mother explains it to her doctors what is happening, she has been through sleep studies and was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea but nothing else was noticed.
Later Serenity was walking, and her mother was calling her name to let her know she needs to stop because a car was coming and Serenity didn't her, she didn't even notice her mother calling she continued to walk toward the cars. Her mother grabbed her to protect her from the cars she explains this situation to the doctors and now she has been battling with absent seizures (Epilepsy).
She also has generalized (grandma seizures), and she has to leave school at least twice a week. Serenity has gone from a straight A student to being retained in the 3rd grade due to her constant memory loss. She was on a 504 plan that wasn’t honored by her school and her mom did not receive any call backs or responses after reaching out to the school board. She just needs answers and help, from the right medical professionals to help get her epilepsy under control, so she can focus again.
Her seizures are all over the place she is taking adult dosages to try and control her Epilepsy and it's not working. Serenity had Surgery on 10/17/2025 and has had multiple seizures under anesthesia. There are only two facilities in this world that focus on seizures and there is a long waiting list we would like to get any resources that would help get Serenity to the Epilepsy doctor office in California.
We are trying to get our baby girl a Service Dog to help her with falls and other needs pertaining to her medical needs this dog will be trained by medical professionals.
We are in the process of starting a Non-Profit in Serenity name that would not only help her but others just like her.
