Belov
ed Hearts,
For the last few years, my husband Gabriel and I have been living through a roller-coaster of instability. Despite all our efforts, we were unable to secure permanent work or housing, and in recent months we became homeless, moving between hotels and temporary rooms, packing and unpacking our lives again and again.
This instability has pushed my body into a medical emergency.
Until March 2025, Gabriel and I had stable accommodation in Istanbul, Turkey, which had been ongoing and was provided through the support of a family member. This arrangement was based on ethical assurances made to me, including support toward establishing stability and assistance in accessing medical care during a period of declining health.
In March 2025, this financial support was abruptly withdrawn, leaving us without housing or resources. This occurred at the same time that my health was significantly deteriorating, placing us in an immediate and vulnerable position.
Years of hardship and lack of medical access have brought me to a dangerous point:
I have been medically diagnosed with needing a hip replacement
I am in severe and constant pain in my hip, pelvis, leg, and back
I can no longer walk or sit safely for long periods
Long sitting causes spasms and trauma throughout my body
I suffer from high blood pressure, thyroid issues, and episodes of heart distress
Obesity and immobility are now affecting my overall health
Due to lack of resources, I have not been able to complete medical care
Without stability and treatment, my condition continues to worsen.
These days, I became increasingly unable to function, and we became unable to generate income because my husband Gabriel, needed to take on a full caregiving role. Without housing, income, or a local support network, we were unable to stabilize our situation.
At this stage, our situation has reached a critical emergency level. My mobility is now severely compromised, making movement extremely difficult or impossible without assistance. We are often at immediate risk of having no shelter, and in recent instances, accommodation has only been secured at the last possible moment due to my physical inability to move or relocate. This is no longer a situation of temporary hardship it is a life-threatening emergency, where loss of shelter, combined with severe medical decline, places me at serious risk.
Because we have been living outside the UK for an extended period, and because Gabriel is not a UK national, we are not eligible for public assistance or housing support upon return. Any stabilization must therefore be self-funded.
Also my medical condition has progressed to a serious and urgent stage and I need a hip replacement as soon as possible.
Under normal circumstances, my medical care in the United Kingdom could potentially be accessed through the NHS. However, as I have been living outside the UK for several years, reinstating access and progressing will takes time and further delay potentially harmful. As a result, private surgical intervention may now be required, depending on medical advice.
The estimated cost for purchase a power wheelchair, surgery-related medical care, initial landing accommodation, temporary housing followed by securing a rental property to re-stabilize in England, travel arrangements, obtaining a legal representative for spouse visa for Gabriel to accompany and care for me, and covering essential living and recovery costs during the months in which I am unable to work and him may not yet be legally permitted to work is estimated between £55,000 and £60,000, depending on medical recommendations and location.
This reflects the true cost of stabilizing my life long enough to receive proper healing.
From My Heart to Yours
I recently turned 60 years old. Never in my life did I imagine being unable to walk, without a home, and in constant pain. Asking for help is humbling, but it is now necessary.
If you feel guided to support through a donation, a share, or prayer please know that your kindness may truly help save my life.
With love,
Serena Devi
(and Gabriel)
