7/22/22:  Dixie has had such a higher energy level since her spay. She hasn’t been urinating AS often, but still having some issues. Dixie has some trauma related issues that will just have tobe manageable. Dixie will most likely be on medications forever. They are VERY pricey. This may not mean much to some, but these add up FAST! I have already asked about cheaper pill options. Her pain/anti inflammatory daily med is $90 a month, her urine muscle daily med is about $30 a month, and her Pro-Pectalin about $60 a month. She is also on a joint and hip supplement. You all have helped SO MUCH and we are beyond grateful. Dixie sends loves to everyone of you guys. A little bit of help for her pricey medications she needs would go a tremendous way. We have so much gratitude for everyone donating and supporting Dixie’s journey. SHES A TROOPER!
Also- i still have debt credit card bills from Dixie’s visits as well ☹️

7/2/22: We have received results back from Dixie’s series first morning pee samples. Everything came  back good. Which Dr also said makes the Lepto way way way less likely. We are still just waiting it out. Weather her peeing issues are hormonal and need a-little more time after her spay, or  is it just the structural damage from her past trauma from breeder. Dixie also seems to “mark”, but like extremely bad in new places indoor or out. So If that part is behavioral, we can try Prozac.

6/28/22:
Still collecting her morning urine and waiting to send in for a culture, the will have update. Still no bleeding. Dixie’s more active now than she was prior to spay! Here she is!

6/23/22:  GUYS! Dixie and I NEED your help again! My vet got back to me with some information from specialists. Here is the text. I will be talking to her on the phone after work to get more details.

“ Good morning! This is Dr. Haag. An internal medicine diplomat responded to my post about Dixie and her suggestions were checking a series of 3-5 first morning urine samples to get a trend of her urine concentrating ability or lack there of ($41 if you save, refridgerate, and label samples and bring in at one time). She also suggesting ruling out Leptospirosis ($275-tests via blood and urine sample) and consider a urine culture to rule out low level infection (I would run another urine sample and culture-$242 with us obtaining a sterile sample here).”

22/22: Dixie’s vet has posted again about her case (which is def NOT a normal case) and urination history on one of their veterinary boards to see if any of the specialists have any other suggestions. She suspect the fecal size is related to the same reasons she doesn't empty her bladder-most likely from her previous trauma. She is going see what other suggestions she get and that may help both concerns but hopefully the propectalin will help consistency since probiotic is not.

6/21/22: Dixie has been doing very well! No bleeding since her second day post opp from her spay. Her urine issues still seem to be a problem, which is indeed from the trauma she had years ago with her breeder. Even the muscles down there don’t allow her to poop right. We had dixie up to 3x a day of a medication to try and help her muscles empty her bladder fully. There’s a slight improvement but not much. We are thinking about getting dixie an X-ray for her bladder and spine, for that area to see if there is anything else we can see, and see if her medication is at-least helping.
Dixie always has been her happiest self ever since her spay! I truly believe she had to of been in pain or discomfort and hid it well. Dixie still has some outstanding vet bills, credit card bills, and upcoming tests still. Please  donate towards dixie❤️

528/22:  we got her Progesterone levels back. Her levels were low, which tells us she was NOT even in a heat recently nor is she still. It also tells me she does NOT have pyo. BUT, this means that she has been bleeding this whole time due to her major trauma she sustained while with her previous owners. She might bleed for the rest of her life from it. Might have to wear a diaper forever. She is still schuldued to get spayed, BUT we do not know if spaying her will make the bleeding stop. We are also starting her on a medication that will hopefully help her release her bladder fully and get that pool of fluid out of her uterus. There is no guartunee that it will work, but it is a step to try! Her muscles from her trauma down there never went back to normal and are still stretched. Soooo happy she’s with me and getting all the medical care that she needed years ago that no one gave her!! Karma will come back to her breeder and previous owners.

5/27/22:
Dixie had her full abdominal ultrasound done. All her organs looks good, no masses. BUT she has fluid in her uterus. They are testing her Progesterone levels to see if she is indeed bleeding because she’s in heat, or if she is bleeding due to her prior trauma she had in the past down there. They did say she has possible partial pyometra. So, plan of action currently is wait for her progesterone levels to come back tomorrow - then we will go from there, but spaying is indeed needed still and soon!! She is still unable to empty her bladder completely, without peeing multiple times, so be may be put on a bethanechol. Due to further testing today Dixie’s bill has increased. PLEASE HELP AND DONATE!

5/23/22:  Dixie is still bleeding. I feel so bad for her b/c shes been bleeding ever since i brought her home pretty much. She is still peeing very freq. Dixie is still on her same course of steroids and has her ultrasound appt later on this week! PLEASE DONATE

UPDATE 5/21/22:
We have Dixie taking a course of steroids b/c since her trauma down in that area there could be potential nerve damage, causing her brain to not tell her body she emptied her bladder. We shall see how well this helps if it does at all.
I have made an appt for Dixie’s Ultrasound that is this coming next Friday. A week! You can donate here or contact the vet and make a credit to her account for it.
She also has a spay appt date set up as well for the near future once we hit the goal! Dixie is still spotting some from getting a second heat approx 2 weeks after ending one, which is abnormal in her case. Thanks so much everyone!

UPDATE 5/20/22:  Dixie needs an ultrasound on her bladder and uterus, to see exactly what is going on and what to see before the spay. I have called over 15 vets asking prices for it and they ALL have said i need to see an internal specialist for her. The ones I’ve called cost from $550-$800 for a consultation and ultrasound. PLEASE HELP I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!

UPDATE 5/17/22:      Dixie needs spayed ASAP. Within the next few weeks really. They are thinking she COULD get pyro soon and i am monitoring her for certain signs! we need to ask FAST! PLEASE ANYONE HELP!

UPDATE ON DIXIE 5/15/22:     Things have not improved. Dixie is still wearing diapers and peeing freq. I did come across some of her vet records from when the breeder had her. It was in details about how she was hurt by a male by breeding. Her vagina/Anus/bladder was traumatized leaving her in hospital for a few days and and being so swollen they couldn’t get a catheter in so they had to express her bladder daily.  My vet knows this new information and it could be the cause of why she’s not emptying her bladder fully.
ALSO- Dixie stopped bleeding from her heat 23 days ago. And just yesterday she started bleeding again. I called around and this could be a split cycle or something else what is called pyometra, which can be life threatening. My vet is closed until Monday then i will be calling her. We need to do a ultrasound on bladder and X-ray on spine. Dixie still has outstanding Credit Card bills about $1,000 that i cannot afford either.

FIRST POST: Hello everyone - I just rescued a senior German ShortHaired pointer a few days ago. I drove 10 hours round trip to get her. Once we got home i noticed she was having potty issues - she went to the vet and her urine and Senior bloodwork panel came back good! (Except to watch for Pancreas) Dixie is a 7.5 year old dog that knew nothing but an outside kennel. She was a hunting dog and once she didn’t want to hunt anymore the owner didn’t want her. He told me directly he was going to give her to the pound. We believe she was living in a kennel outside with a sliding tray under it to potty in. She has no idea that grass is made for potty. I have to begin Dixie with the basics. Her potty issues will take time, a-lot of time. I do have doggie diapers that are washable, but i am also needing baby diapers size 7 for her as well. She wears both of them because it needs to hold enough, and also because she did come back with worms and i cannot chance my other dogs getting it too. I of course let it all air out when i am gone, and outside but diapers are SO pricey I’m going through 10-13 diapers a day and would really appreciate some help!! If you have a heart for helping Dixie please donate anything you can. She is now in such a loving home with me and will spoiled like a queen she is. It will be a LOOOONG Journey with Dixie, and teaching her things and potty training. She also of course has a very large vet bill put on a credit card that we could use help with! In no way shape or form did i have the money for all her tests and shots her had.
Thank you everyone so much. Dixie is just a lap Velcro dog that constantly wants love. A heart of our gold just needs some extra help!
