Help Senior Cats at Greater Derry Humane Society

The Greater Derry Humane Society, is a fully foster-based rescue that takes in homeless animals while they await their forever homes. Since we don’t have a physical shelter, 100% of the donations we receive go directly to medical expenses for the animals in our care.

Recently, we have taken a few senior cats into our care. With senior animals comes expenses regarding medical care. Right now, we have 3 senior cats that are in need of medical care and we want to raise money to get them that care. Below, are the cats and what they need, along with some estimates. If you can help us reach our goal to get these sweet seniors the medical care they need, we would be very appreciative! It takes a village and we could not continue to care for the many animals we have without the generous donations of community members like you. Any amount helps.

Ziggy - a sweet 18 year old cat that found his way to us recently. He hasn’t seen a vet in a couple of years so along with the usual updated vaccines and general exam, Ziggy needs a senior blood panel to make sure he is as healthy as he looks. We also suspect that he has arthritis so we want to get him assessed for pain and help manage that.

Snoopy - a loving 13 year old cat living with hyperthyroidism. He was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism not long before he found his way to us. He will need bloodwork done soon to check his thyroid levels to see if he needs another medication dosage change. His medication also runs around $40 per month.

Rilis - a snuggly 9 year old cat that has had a history of urinary crystals. He needs to get a urinalysis to make sure that his urine is free of painful crystals.

Sophia - a lovely 6 1/2 year old cat that also has a history of urinary issues. Sophia was diagnosed a few months ago with a bladder stone and has been on prescription food for a few months to see if the issues dissolve with her diet change. She will require X-rays in the coming weeks to check for urinary stones. While we are hopeful, she may require surgery to remove urinary stones. In the meantime, Sophia eats expensive prescription food and will need to remain on it for the rest of her life.

If you have a soft spot for seniors like we do, please consider donating to help support them with their medical care to keep them in tip top shape. Can’t donate at this time? Please consider sharing to help us reach our goal!
