Hi! As many of you know, I've been going to Uganda for years now, both for work and my doctoral studies. During my time there, I learned a lot about the many struggles refugees in Uganda face. The country is home to about 2 million refugees. Most live in camps, where health and social services are offered free of charge. However, conditions in the camps are pretty bad - health clinics often have no medicine, schools can have 150 students in a classroom, and there are little to no job opportunities. Because of this, many refugees are moving to urban areas - when they do this, they forfeit their right to humanitarian aid and free health and social services.
While in Gulu (a town in northern Uganda), I met so many refugees who came to town just hoping they could send their children to a better school. All these parents want is the same as parents here in Canada - the chance to give their children the best life possible. But most simply cannot afford the tuition outside of the camps. In 2024, I raised over $1,000 thanks to you all, which allowed us to send 4 students to school for a full year! Please help me achieve this goal once again xo
