Meet the Athletes

Abdullah Assaf (26 years old) – Abdullah is already a trailblazer in Palestinian sports history. In a defining moment for Palestinian wrestling, he became the first Palestinian ever to medal at the Arab Championships, bringing home a bronze. His achievement was more than a personal victory—it was a national milestone, proving that Palestinian athletes can excel on the regional stage despite limited resources and support. Abdullah continues to train out of North Central College in Chicago, ILL.

Aylah Mayali (24 years old) – Aylah is making history as the first female wrestler in Palestinian history. She has broken barriers and overcome countless challenges to pave the way for future generations of young women in Palestine to pursue wrestling. Aylah’s journey is not just about competing; it is about representation, empowerment, and proving that Palestinian women have a rightful place in international sport. Previously representing Canada and earning a silver medal at the Junior Pan American Championships, she now aims to compete in the Arab world and achieve new milestones.
