Foster STEM locally, make a difference globally…so says the motto of our Hunterdon Central High School Robotics team. And, after a stunning local season, they now have a chance to compete at the international level at the 2024 FIRST® Championship in Houston, Texas.
“Founded in 1989 by inventor Dean Kamen, FIRST® is a global nonprofit organization that prepares young people for the future through a suite of life-changing youth robotics programs that build skills, confidence, and resilience.”
Our FIRST robotics team, the Daleks, is comprised of over fifty high school students from freshman to seniors. They work tirelessly from the start of the season not only to build and perfect their robot, but to build and foster community and global relationships to introduce others to the exciting world of robotics, technology, and engineering. For their outstanding community efforts, they were awarded the highest honor by FIRST® at their recent district event in Montgomery, NJ – the Impact Award. This award, plus their alliance win at the tournament, paved their way for a solid finish at the regional championships this past weekend in Lehigh, PA, where they qualified for “Worlds”, the international tournament in Texas.
This is where they need our help! The tournament is just over a week away…and we are scrambling to secure air and ground transportation, food, and lodgings for as much of the team and their teachers and mentors as we can. Its crunch time for a group of hard working and passionate students and future leaders – and anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated.
