La historia del Colectivo Semilla y el Son Jarocho se extiende más allá de lo que la memoria puede contar, desde miembres tratando de aprender individualmente, hasta camaradas compartiendo canciones de protesta en las distintas acciones buscando justicia y liberación para la comunidad migrante en New Haven y en toda la panza de la bestia
For the Festival of Resistance in November 2022 we were blessed to receive the visit of maestros Fernando Guadarrama and Gregorio Quiros from Oaxaca and Xalapa in Mexico, who opened the door for more members of the Collective to pick up their instrument and begin the adventure that has been being present and learning about Son Jarocho, a more than 500-year-old musical and cultural tradition that is native to the Jarocha region in the state of Veracruz in Mexico.
Para el Festival de la Resistencia en Noviembre de 2022 tuvimos la bendición de recibir la visita de los maestros Fernando Guadarrama y Gregorio Quiros desde Oaxaca y Xalapa en México, quienes abrieron la puerta para que más miembros del Colectivo levantaran su instrumento y comenzarán la aventura que ha sido estar presente y aprender sobre el Son Jarocho, una tradición musical y cultural de más de 500 años que es nativa de la región Jarocha en el estado de Veracruz en México.
With the encouragement that the teachers left us and also with their advice and recommendation,
The Semilla Collective begins weekly workshops with Maria Puente Flores and Mateo Cano who together make up Pulso de Barro. With them, we have learned to play the jarana, sing and write the verses and to tap our feet happily with the sounds of tradition.

El Colectivo Semilla comienza talleres semanales con Maria Puente Flores y Mateo Cano quienes juntes conforman Pulso de Barro. Con elles,hemos aprendido a tocar la jarana, cantar y escribir los versos y a zapatear alegres con los sones de la tradición.
These community workshops are open to the general public of all ages at no cost. We even used funds from the Collective to purchase some instruments so that more people can learn, recognizing that historically access to artistic expression has been turned by capitalism into an elitist practice that marginalizes and leaves out working class people. We open the space to our community.
Estos talleres comunitarios son abiertos al público en general y de todas edades sin ningún costo. Incluso utilizamos fondos del Colectivo para comprar algunos instrumentos para que más personas puedan aprender, reconociendo que históricamente el acceso a la expresión artística ha sido convertida por el capitalismo en una práctica elitista que margina y deja fuera a las personas de clase trabajadora. Nosotros abrimos el espacio a nuestra comunidad.
With Son Jarocho welcoming us, we participate in community festivals that we call ¨Fandangos¨ in which we form a community and meet many beautiful people with whom we also learn and we grow together. This is how we formed our group called Son Chaneques Rebeldes, honoring the tradition of resistance that we want to promote and cultivate with Son Jarocho.
Con el Son Jarocho recibiendonos, participamos en fiestas comunitarias que llamamos ¨Fandangos¨en los que hacemos comunidad y conocemos a muchas personas hermosas con las que también aprendemos y crecemos juntes. Así formamos nuestro grupo llamado Son Chaneques Rebeldes, haciendo honor a la tradición de resistencia que queremos promover y cultivar con el Son Jarocho.
In 2023 we also visited schools and shared the tradition with children and youth, something that filled our spirit and community with joy. Son Jarocho has been a force of change and organization that not only drives us but also heals us and gives us strength to move forward in migrant resistance.
En 2023 también visitamos escuelas y compartimos la tradición con los niños y las juventudes, algo que llenó nuestro espíritu y comunidad de alegría. El Son Jarocho ha sido una fuerza de cambio y de organización que no solo nos impulsa sino también nos sana y nos trae fuerza para seguir adelante en la resistencia migrante
This year, Ariles' Son Jarocho Camp will bring together master Son Jarocho musicians and dancers from Mexico and the United States to teach, perform, and converse with Son Jarocho practitioners of all levels and backgrounds. Hosted by Ashokan Center in association with Son Jarocho NY
Este año, el campamento de Son Jarocho de Ariles reunirá a maestros músicos y bailarines de Son Jarocho de México y Estados Unidos para enseñar, actuar y conversar con practicantes de Son Jarocho de todos los niveles y orígenes. Organizado por el Ashokan Center en asociación con Son Jarocho NY
This camp will take place in Olivebridge, NY and it is only comparable to those that take place in Veracruz, Mexico, to which most, if not all, members of Son Chaneques Rebeldes cannot attend due to being undocumented and due to lack of resources to pay.
Este campamento que tomará lugar Olivebridge, NY y es solo comparable con los que toman lugar en Veracruz, México a los cuales la mayoría si no es que todes les miembres de Son Chaneques Rebeldes no pueden asistir por ser indocumentades y por la falta de recursos para pagar.
With your support, we will be able to send a contingent of jaraneres to this camp and continue our education and development, which in turn we will bring back to our community in New Haven, CT to continue promoting rebellion and tradition with love and dignity
The cost of a space per person It's $300
The remaining funds will be used to cover travel and food expenses.
