I have always had a love for animals and knew since I was little that I would pursue a career in animal science. I grew up volunteering at our local animal shelter; I pet/ farm sit in my free time and have worked as a veterinary assistant at a local animal hospital for over 2 years.

In my second year at HOSA State Leadership Conference (SLC), but first time in this event, I placed 3rd overall in the state of North Carolina in Veterinary Science. Even with my experience I never expected to place top 3. In addition, in November 2025, I competed in Veterinary Science at Regional Leadership Conference and also brought home 3rd place. I am the second student to ever advance to HOSA's International Leadership Conference (ILC) from Mitchell High. As a rural, public school, Mitchell High School HOSA students do not have the preparation that a lot of other competitors receive. Many students attend career or technical schools and are thoroughly taught the subjects that they compete in. Students at Mitchell High rely on their jobs, shadowing opportunities, and/or independent learning on their competition subjects.

As I prepare to go to college for veterinary medicine in the fall, going to Nationals is an expense that we haven't planned for. With your help, my HOSA advisor, our Student President of Mitchell High School HOSA, and I will be able to go to Indianapolis for ILC, where we will compete, attend interactive seminars and presentations, and engage in leadership workshops with fellow HOSA students from across the United States.
